4 June 2016 Winter Park Phelps Park

DESCRIPTION: The 5 and 10K walks registration is between 8:30-9:00 from the start point at Phelps Park at 1200 N. Phelps Ave. as the Lakemont YMCA parking is crowded. The 5K walk start 3 miles away at the train station and walks thru downtown and Rollins College areas. The 10K walk goes thru residential streets, passes Lakes Mizell, Virginia, & Maitland on shaded, oak lined streets, visits the Rollins College campus before you see Winter Park's downtown fine shops and the excellent restaurants along Park Ave. A must stop is the Morse Museum's display of Tiffany glass art. The walk is suitable for strollers and wheelchairs but some streets are brick with no sidewalks. Pets are allowed (not inside Central Park). Please carry water. Trail Ratings: 1A. DIRECTIONS: (NOTE: I4 construction can cause delays.) To Phelps Park at 1200 N. Phelps Ave, Winter Park, from Orlando take I4E to Exit 87, Fairbanks Ave. Turn right (east) for 3.5 miles thru Winter Park (becomes Aloma Ave.). Turn left on Phelps Ave. (1st light after curve on Aloma). The Park is on the right after crossing Palmer. From SR417N use exit 38, Aloma, and turn left, drive 6.1 miles. DESCRIPTION: The 5 and 10K walks registration is between 8:30-10:00, please finish by 1:00 pm. The last time we walked in this area was January 2006. Many locals do not see this area very often and this walking tour will provide an update. Walk along International Drive with the endless shops, hotels, the Eye, Convention Center, and Pointe Orlando areas to explore. After or during the walk visit Ripley's, Madam Tussaund's, Sea Life Aquarium, Titantic exhibit, Wonder Works and south of the SR 528, the World of Chocolate Museum and Cafe. Turn left (from Disney, turn right) and go to the right lane. Turn right on International Dr (1st light). Move to the left lane. Turn left on Via Mercado and right into Pirates Cove Golf. Park in slots immediately after turning. From SR528W (Beachline) use exit 2, Universal Blvd, for 2 miles to Via Mercado just before the The Eye. DIRECTIONS: To Moss Park at 12901 Moss Park Rd, from Orlando SR408E use exit 18 (Sanford) /Orlando Intl Airport) and stay right onto SR417S. From Port Orange use I95S to Exit 212 SR407 to SR528W and continue to exit 26. Exit onto the SR 417S toward Disney World.
From SR417S/N use exit 23, Moss Park Rd. and turn left from the Sanford/Oviedo (right from the Disney) and drive 3.9 miles to Park. DESCRIPTION: Walk this upscale mall with 2 floors. The 5K & 10K (3.1 & 6.2 mi) walk routes are inside the mall. Pets are not allowed. Wheelchairs and strollers allowed (must use elevator to & from 2d level). Mall OPENS at 8:30 so the walk start will be at 9:00. The walk accommodates strollers and wheelchairs. DESCRIPTION: The 6 and 10K walks registration is between 9:00-10:00. Lunch is at noon followed by our annual Club Meeting. 10K walkers please start by 9:30 or in time to complete by noon. The walk is along the areas south of the start on and near the Seminole-Wekiva Trail. Lunch is $18 that we need RSVPs and payment in advance so the club pays without the 7% sales tax (a $1.05 savings). You may pay for the lunch ($18) at any event and make your entree selection online or send the flyer

Information: The theme of WAF 26 is Tampa Trails and Havana Nights, inspired by not only Tampa’s long-time ties with Cuba but by the recent dramatically changing policies with that country. Friday night hosted walk of the YRE is the expanding and glittering Riverwalk with its Historical Monument Trail. This trail is a series of beautiful bronze and marble busts and monuments recounting the history of people and events that shaped the area.
